Build your mills
- Place your 9 pieces, then move them along the lines.
- Three in a line is a mill — remove an enemy piece.
- With only 3 pieces left you may jump anywhere.
- Win when the enemy has 2 pieces or no moves.
Practical strategy tips
- Value intersections with several movement directions.
- Prepare two possible mills instead of forcing one obvious line.
- Reopen and close a mill to make it useful again.
- When the opponent can fly, reduce safe landing points.

Where the game comes from
Boards for this game were cut into the roof slabs of an Egyptian temple, into Roman paving stones and into the planks of a Norwegian Viking ship. Few board games have been played across so much of the world for so long.
The device that defines it is the double mill: two lines sharing a piece, so that every move closes one of them. Build it once and you take an opposing piece every single turn — which is why the whole game revolves around preventing it.
