How to play

Push with strength

  1. Tap a marble, then tap a highlighted destination. You may move a line of up to three marbles.
  2. A larger line can push a smaller enemy line if there is space behind it.
  3. Push six enemy marbles off the board to win. Keep your own marbles away from the edge.

Practical strategy tips

  • Maintain a compact centre so marbles support one another.
  • Attack in line only with a real numerical advantage.
  • Give an edge marble a planned escape route.
  • Check which gap your own push opens behind the line.

Strategy

Build a compact connected centre during the opening instead of sending isolated marbles toward an edge. For every line, verify both numerical superiority in the movement direction and an empty space behind the opposing group. A sideways shift often achieves more than an immediate push: it reinforces exposed pieces and creates pressure from multiple directions for the following planned turn.

In the middle game, target weak connections between opposing groups rather than one convenient marble. Create two edge threats at once while keeping an escape route for your foremost line. Before any ejection attempt, inspect the gap your own movement leaves for a counterattack. Near the finish, maintaining a coherent formation is frequently more valuable than claiming a little extra territory.

Common mistakes

  • Advancing one marble far from support makes it vulnerable; move connected lines and preserve a route back to the group.
  • Seeing only an available push hides the new gap behind it; calculate the strongest reply before attacking.
  • Defending parallel to the edge may be too late; return threatened marbles toward the compact centre early.

Where the game comes from

The game goes back to a 1987 invention: two French designers wanted an abstract board game decided by mass rather than by how far a piece may travel. The result was a hexagonal board on which marbles are pushed rather than placed.

The central rule is unusual — you may only push when you outnumber the opposition along the line of movement. That turns the board into a contest of concentration: scatter your marbles and you lose the ability to move anything at all.

Frequently asked questions

When may an opposing line be pushed?

Your line must contain more marbles along the direction of movement, and there must be space behind the smaller opposing line. An equally strong line cannot be displaced even when nearby cells are empty.

How many marbles can move together?

A connected line of up to three of your marbles may move as a unit. Supported lines provide stronger pushes, so a larger formation must be repositioned through several carefully connected moves.

How is a game of Marble Push won?

Victory comes after pushing six opposing marbles beyond the board edge. Occupying space alone is not enough: an advanced piece has little value if the rest of your formation becomes divided and vulnerable.

Why play Marble Push on FunPort?

  • Strength applies only along one specific direction of movement.
  • The hexagonal board supports pressure from unusually varied angles.
  • Group cohesion and edge danger change with every line move.
